What you'll take away
A typical day
We deliberately cap candidate numbers so every candidate gets meaningful individual attention and feedback. Exact numbers on the day depend on final faculty and candidate confirmations.

Frequently asked questions
Who are the SCOPE practice days for?
Candidates preparing for the Primary FRCA examination. The day is built around the OSCE and SOE components, so it suits anyone sitting either part — whether it is your first attempt or you are returning after a previous sitting.
What does the day involve?
A full day of practice in real exam conditions. Registration typically opens at 09:00, OSCE stations run through the morning, and the structured oral examination runs after lunch, finishing at about 16:00. The exact timetable for each course is shown on its event page and will be shared closer to the date.
What is included in the fee?
Full-day OSCE and SOE practice, individual structured feedback, realistic exam materials, refreshments and lunch and a certificate of attendance. The fee for each course is shown on its event page.
How many candidates attend?
Places are deliberately limited, with the capacity for each course shown on its event page. Small numbers protect hot-seat time and individual attention from faculty — we would rather run a smaller day well than a larger one thinly.
How much hot-seat time will I actually get?
Substantial. The format is built so that you are actively performing in stations rather than observing others, which is the main reason places are capped. During the SOE, there will be opportunity to listen other candidates and pick up some good answering techniques.
How do I register and pay?
Submit the registration form on the event page to express interest. The SCOPE team then confirms whether a place is available and sends you payment details at a later date. Your place is secured once we have confirmed. Submitting the form on its own does not confirm a place.
When does registration close?
Each event page shows a closing date, but courses often fill before then and registration closes early once all places are taken. We will add you to the waiting list thereafter and invite you if there is a cancellation. Registering sooner rather than later is worthwhile.
What feedback will I receive?
OSCE feedbacks are usually given on the answer scripts in a written format. You will have the expected answers at the end of the day. We will have dedicated feedback time at the end of each SOE circuit for personalised feedback.
Who teaches on the day?
UK consultant anaesthetists and residents with relevant examination and teaching experience.
Is SCOPE affiliated with the Royal College of Anaesthetists?
No. SCOPE is an independent practice programme with no affiliation to the RCoA. The College is the authority on the format and content of the examination, and we link to its official pages so you can work from the definitive description.
What happens if I need to cancel?
You can cancel within 14 days of booking for a full refund, provided the course has not already taken place. After that, cancel at least 7 days before the course and we refund your fee less a £20 administrative charge. Cancellations within 7 days are considered individually and depend on whether your place can be filled from the waiting list. If SCOPE cancels a course, you receive a full refund with no deduction.
